Breath, Story and Act: movement improvisation

September 10 @ 17:30 - 19:30

Body is an instrument. Mind is an inspiration. Voice is resonance.

Forget thought steps. Forget expectations.

Dance improvisation is movement that takes place in the present moment. No pre-learned sequences, but choreography of the present moment. A game where we are creating the rules.

Dance improvisation cultivates body awareness, spontaneity and creativity. It teaches you to react, express yourself and find new movement possibilities that you were not aware of yet. It connects movement with space, rhythm, emotions and social interaction. Movement improvisation is not only an artistic expression, but also a mental and physical training.

How does it work?

  • Neuroplasticity in action

Your brain consists of billions of neurons that connect into complex networks. Every new movement creates new connections. Dance improvisation is one of the most effective forms of neurotraining – it connects logical analysis with intuitive perception and physical movement.

  • Dancing activates both brain hemispheres

Dance improvisation forces your brain to work in real time – connecting motor centers, emotional circuits, and creative zones. It strengthens the connection between the right (intuition, emotions) and left (analysis, speech) hemispheres.

  • Improving cognitive function

Studies show that improvised dance increases concentration, decision-making, and adaptability. Dance is considered one of the best preventions of neurodegenerative diseases (e.g. Alzheimer's disease).

  • Hormonal balance & emotional stability

During improvisation, you release endorphins, dopamine, and serotonin—hormones associated with happiness and motivation. At the same time, your cortisol (stress hormone) levels drop, which reduces anxiety and tension.

  • Space for deepening expression

Movement improvisation allows you to express emotions that cannot be expressed in words. It's not about "being a good dancer", but finding your own movement language.

And what about voice? That's dancing too!

  • Osvobození bránice – tanec a hlas jsou propojené, improvizace pomáhá volnému dýchání.
  • Hlasová rezonance – prozkoumáme sílu vlastního hlasu, jeho zabarvení a dynamiku.
  • Redukce napětí – uvolnění hlasu a čelisti eliminuje stres a fyzickou tenzi.
  • Dechová práce – zlepšíme kapacitu plic a přirozený rytmus dechu.
  • Syrová expresivita – hlas jako nástroj pro autentický projev a hlubší propojení s pohybem.

What's going to happen during classes?

  • Body and voice preparation

Warming up, activating breathing and movement. We'll create a safe space for discovering – both individual and in groups.

  • Movement and voice improvisation

You will experiment with movement, voice, dynamics, space and interaction. We will focus on the body's response to impulses and the connection with emotions using exercises from physical theatre, new dance, contemporary dance, qigong and contact improvisation.

  • Instant composition

We will work with the rules of improvisational creation, where movement becomes part of space, music and group energy.

  • Conclusion – reflection and sharing

Perception of experiences, anchoring of experiences, open discussion and feedback.

Who are the classes for?

  • For both, absolute beginners and experienced dancers.
  • For those who want to cultivate their movement intelligence.
  • For anyone who wants to connect their body, mind and voice into one whole.
  • For artists, teachers, therapists and anyone who wants to feel better about their body and expression.
  • For everyone who wants more presence, flow and freedom.
